Men's Soccer Top Grinnell in Season Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa –  The University of Dubuque men’s soccer team started their season with a thrilling victory of Grinnell College, 3-2.

How It Happened
-Grinnell’s Artis Curiskis kicked off the scoring just over 16 minutes into the game to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
-14 Minutes later the Spartans even things up with a Noah Clarke goal in the 30th minute.
-UD’s Chris Rigby gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead early in the second half with a goal in the 55th minute.
-Right after Rigby’s goal, Grinnell responded with one of their own to tie the game at 2.
-Noah Clarke finds the back of the net for his second goal of the game in the 70th minute off of an assist from Edvin Loefren.
-Grinnell had one final push in the final few minutes but the UD defense held strong to close out the game.

For the Spartans
Goalkeepers:  Pat Openchowski (1 goal allowed, 2 saves, 45:00), Brandon White (1 save, goal allowed, 45:00)
-UD fired off 18 shots in the game, 14 in the second half. Of the 18 shots, eight were on goal.
-Chris Rigby had 8 of the Spartans shot attempts.
-Ryan Weber received a yellow card.
-UD had an assist on all three of their goals

Goalkeepers: Michael Spicer (1 goal allowed, 0 saves, 45:00), Jared Cloutier (2 goals allowed, five saves, 45:00)
-Grinnell put up 12 shots  in the game, seven of which were in the first half.
 -Artis Curskis led Grinnell with three shots.
