DUBUQUE, Iowa – Two University of Dubuque men’s track members picked up weekly honors for their performances at the 2017 UD Battle of the Bluff Indoor Track and Field Meet. Blaze Murfin was named USTFCCCA NCAA Division III ITF Men’s Athlete of the Week. Kyle Thomas picked up Iowa Conference Men’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week.

Murfin, a junior out of Dallas City, Illinois, picked up where he left off last indoor season after an All-American campaign, winning both the shot put and weight throw on Saturday. Both of Murfin’s winning throws have put him into the national lead in both categories. In the shot put, his throw of 15.76m (51-8.5) is a national best by 3.5 inches, with his weight toss of 18.46m (60-6.75) give him a lead by one foot.

In his first collegiate meet, Kyle Thomas (Spring Green, Wis./River Valley) took home the title in both the 55m dash in 6.50 seconds and the 200m dash in 22.13. His performance was good enough to earn Men’s Track Athlete of the Meet. After the first meet of the season, he ranks third in the nation in the 55m and second in the 200m dash.

The Track and Field teams are off until after the holidays and will resume action on January 13th when they host the University of Dubuque Solomon Butler Classic beginning at 10:30 a.m.
