BOX SCORE vs. Buena Vista

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque football team was penalized 10 times for 113 yards in Saturday's 41-44 loss on Hall of Fame day to the Buena Vista University Beavers. The Spartans stopped the Beavers on an incomplete pass on fourth down with minutes remaining in the game, only to be flagged for a late hit on the Beavers quarterback which extended their drive and allowed them to score on the series to take the lead.

The game was halted for an hour in the third quarter as heavy rains and winds brought some lightning which caused a delay. Once the game resumed UD scored from the 20 yard line on a Conor Feckley strike to Kody Reimer. Dwayne Allen Jr., carried the ball 23 times for 268 yards and a pair of touchdowns with his longest being from 49 yards in the third quarter. Dylan Schultz caught five passes for 85 yards and Feckley finished the day 13-26 for 194 yards and two touchdowns.

The Spartan defense held BV's run game in check to 92 yards, but allowed 404 yards through the air. BV's T.J. Lint led all receivers with 12 catches for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Hard hits from UD's defense would knock out the Beavers starting quarterback and both running backs, but flags hampered their efforts throughout the afternoon. Each team returned an interception for a touchdown, for the Spartans it was Quintell Wilson who returned it 21 yards for the score. Michael Joseph led UD with eight tackles and two break-ups. Derek Schambow finished with seven tackles and Le'Devin Smith had seven before he left the game early in the third quarter on a targeting call by the officials.

The Spartans 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the IIAC will travel to Lincoln, Neb. next week to face the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairiewolves at 1:00 p.m.
