Spartans Capture First Win of Season

FULTON, Mo. – The University of Dubuque women’s lacrosse team picked up their first victory of the 2018 campaign with a dominating win over Westminster College, 17-4.

In all, seven Spartans scored on Saturday afternoon against the Blue Jays. Cassandra Berger led UD with five goals on seven shots. Claire Carlson was right behind Berger with four goals of her own. Kori King added three goals, Breann Tjaarda with two and three different Spartans had one goal each. To go along with their goals, Tjaarda and King both led UD with 12 groundballs.

Kaley Weir started in the net for UD and played all 60 minutes, recording four saves on eight shots.

After committing 22 turnovers in Friday’s loss, the Spartans only committed three turnovers against Westminster, while forcing the Blue Jays into 11 turnovers.

The Spartans hit the road again on next Saturday when they travel to Cornell College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
