Spartans Hold Off Norse for Fifth Straight Win

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Despite being outhit 13-5 on Tuesday afternoon, the University of Dubuque baseball team took the rubber match from Luther College, 2-0.

How it Happened
-After being held hitless from the second to the fifth inning, the Spartan offense found a spark in the sixth inning. Jarad Clevenger opened the inning with a double and Will Doherty followed that up by getting hit by a pitch. After two straight outs, Dalton Garst came through with an infield single to plate the first run of the game.
-The Spartans grew their lead to 2-0 in the seventh inning when Will Doherty singled to center field to score Justin Jenson.
-A one out single in the top of the eighth by Luther brought in UD closer Nathan Schneiderman where he retired six of the seven batters he faced to record his seventh save of the season.
-The UD pitching staff escaped several jams on Tuesday afternoon as Luther stranded at least one runner in eight innings and at least two in four different innings.
