Spartans Shutout Norse, Clinch Two Seed in IIAC Tournament

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team clinched the number two seed and a bye into the semi-finals of the Iowa Conference with their 2-0 win over Luther College on Tuesday night.

How It Happened
-After neither team got a shot off in the first 14 minutes of action, Luther’s Marta Springer fired a shot wide of Victoria Roethler.  
-The Spartans continued to make other teams pay off corner kicks when Lauren Cangelosi sent a corner into the box and found McKenna Young, who headed it into the net for her first goal of the season. It was the Spartans first shot attempt of the game
-Amanda Chlebek almost gave the Spartans their second goal of the first half when she sent a shot from outside the 18 box but it drilled off the crossbar.
-UD finally added an insurance goal in the second half when Amanda Chlebek fired off of a shot but was saved by a diving goalkeeper but bounced right to a crashing Lauren Cangelosi who converted on the open net and put the Spartans up 2-0.
-With the shutout, it is the fourth straight shutout that UD has posted and their seventh in their last eight games
-The Spartans have now outscored opponents 13-5 in the second half this season
