Spartans Tie Knights on the Road

WAVERLY, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men’s soccer team took a 2-0 lead into halftime, however they could not hold onto that lead and tied Wartburg, 2-2.

How It Happened
-On the Spartans first shot attempt of the game, Chris Rigby found Ivan Sanchez would found the back of the net to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead, 3:36 into the game.
-UD only attempted two shots in the next 20 minutes but on the second one Edvin Loefren found Ivan Sanchez on a cross pass, who once again found the back of the net for his second goal of the game and move the Spartans ahead 2-0. Those were the only three shots in the first half for the Spartans.
-Wartburg attempted 11 shots in the second half, on the fourth one in the 71st minute, Wartburg finally got their first goal of the game. Just over four minutes later, Wartburg snuck the ball through the right side of the net for another goal to tie the game at 2.
-The Spartans tried to respond to Wartburg’s two goals and grab the lead again before overtime but both of their shots were saved by Gunnar Lenzen
-Ivan Sanchez was the only Spartan able to get off a shot in overtime, sending one wide left and the other was saved by the Knights goalkeeper
-Wartburg had one last push at the end of the second overtime but the UD defense held serve to keep the score 2-2.
