Volleyball Bounces Back with Win at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team responded to their second loss of the season with a straight set (25-13, 25-23, 25-23) win over Grinnell College on the road. 

The Spartans jumped out of the gates with a 8-1 lead and would not let Grinnell get within five points the rest of the set in route to a 25-13 set victory. In a back and fourth second set, the Spartans trailed late in the set 21-22 but rallied to take four of the next five points to take the set and a commanding 2-0 lead. The third set was much like the second as it was a tight battle the whole set and tied at 21. With it tied at 21, UD forced a service error, Karrah Davis had two kills and an ace and Kara Wright put an exclamation point on the match with a kill to give the Spartans the set 25-23 and match 3-0.

Seven different Spartans had a kill on Tuesday night, while Karrah Davis led the way with 20 of UD's 46 kills. Davis had four service aces as well. Kara Wright was second on the team with seven kills, while adding 12 digs and one block. UD assisted on 44 of their teams 46 kills with Alyssa Cose handing out 37 of those assists. Jenna Runde was her typical self, coming up with 22 digs for the Spartans defense. For the match as a team, the Spartans had an impressive hitting percentage of .300 with a .533 percentage in the first set.

UD returns home on Friday to host both Monmouth and Knox at 5:00 and 7:30 in the Stoltz Sports Center.
