Volleyball Picks Up Two Wins at Loras Invite, Improve to 7-0

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque volleyball team defeated Hamline and St. Olaf in back to back matches on Friday afternoon at the Loras Invite to improve to 7-0 for the first time since 1982.

The Spartans jumped out to a quick start and making sure the match was never in doubt, dominating all three sets to improve to 6-0 for the first time since 1994. UD dominated almost every facet of the match, hitting 45 kills to Hamline’s 27, six service aces to Hamline’s one and 42 assists to their 26. Karrah Davis, Karrah Wright and Lauren Egnasrki combined for 35 of the teams kills with 17, 9 and 9, respectively. The Spartans also had 52 digs and four Spartans had seven or more digs, led by Jenna Runde with 16.

After dropping the first set, UD bounced back and won the next three sets to win the match in a nightly contested battle against St. Olaf. In the third set just when it looked like the Spartans were going to put the match away, St. Olaf scored four straight points to tie it up at 21. After a timeout, the Spartans rattled off four straight points to take home the win. Karrah Davis powered the UD attack with 21 kills and hitting percentage of .226. Alyssa Cose added 40 more assists in the match and 79 on the day. The win put the Spartans at 7-0 for the season and it is the first time they have stated 7-0 since 1982.
