Women's Basketball Drops Road Finale

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women’s basketball team hit the road for the final time this season, coming up short against the Coe College Kohawks and losing 87-72.

Coe 21-4 run over first 5:30, Crystal Rios three sparked a run for the Spartans as UD responded with a run of their own, closing the first quarter on a 20-6 run and making it a 27-24 game in favor of the Kohawks heading into the second quarter.

The pace slowed down in the second quarter as UD scored just two points in first five minutes of second quarter. However, once UD got into the bonus, their offense began to gain momentum and scored 12 points in the final 4:25 of the frame. Allison Roach scored three of her 10 first half points with a three at the buzzer to cut the UD deficit to 43-38 at the break.

In the third quarter, UD kept the Spartan lead between four and eight points for a majority of the quarter until the Kohawks went on an 8-0 spurt in just over a minute to build their lead to 15 and the Spartans would never be able to get back within single digits for the remainder of the game.
Despite the loss, four Spartans reached double figures in the scoring column. Abbey Meyer led the way with 16 points, making 7-8 free throws. Meyer also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. After ten points in the first half, Allison Roach was limited to just one second half point. Morgan Boer and Crystal Rios each totaled 10 points. Rios was a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe.

The Spartans bench outscored the Kohawks bench, 41-31 ad the Spartans also outscored the Kohawks in second chance points, 13-5. UD was limited to just 32.4% from the field. While the Kohawks shot 45.8% from the field and a blistering 52.2% from behind the arc on 23 attempts.

The Spartans return home for the final week of the regular season, hosting Luther College on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in the Stoltz Sports Center.
