Women's Basketball Overcome by #4 Knights in IIAC Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Spartans battled before the visiting Wartburg College Knights began to break the game open in the final quarter en route to a 86-58 win over the Spartans in the Iowa Conference opener on Wednesday night.
UD kept the top-ranked Knights within four points in the opening quarter by a score of 16-20. The two teams struggled to find the basket in the second quarter and UD trailed at the half, 32-23. UD out scored the Knights 25-24 in the third quarter before Wartburg pulled away in the final quarter, out scoring UD 30-10 to collect the win.
The Spartans were led by Abbey Meyer who finished with 22 points, three steals, and three assists. UD sank 20-57 shot attempts (35.1%), were 5-18 from the three point area (27.8%), and 13-17 at the free throw line (76.5%). The Sparatns trailed in rebounding to the Knights 34-43.
The Spartans travel to play the Central College Dutch on Saturday, Nov. 2 before returning home to host the Simpson College Storm on Wednesday, Dec. 6 on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center.
