Women's Basketball Overpowered by #2 Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women’s basketball team struggled on Saturday, as they took on undefeated and #2 Wartburg, falling 96-51.

With Wartburg leading 5-2 early in the first quarter, UD’s Madison Boer drilled a three pointer to even the score at 5-5 with 6:57 left in the first. After two scoreless possessions, Wartburg responded with a  three pointer of their own to take an 8-5 lead and the Spartans would go on to trail for the rest of the game.

Allison Roach came off the bench to lead the Spartans in scoring with 14 points in 18 minutes. Roach went 6-7 from the free throw line and 4-12 from the field. She also added a team-high six rebounds, along with Kia Dwight and Morgan Boer. Kia Dwight started her second game of the year in place of Abbey Meyer who missed the game, scoring eight points to go along with the six rebounds.

UD’s best offense percentage wise came in the third quarter where they shot 42.9% from the field, making 6-14 shots to total 14 points in the quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Spartans held the Knights to their lowest shooting percentage in any quarter at 33.3% and just 25% from three.

The Spartans have the week off before hosting Central College on Saturday, February 3rd at 2:00 in the Stoltz Sports Center
