WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's lacrosse jumped out to a early halftime lead 4-1 to capture the non-conference match against the Wartburg College Knights 8-5 on the road.
Breann Tjaarda led the offense with four goals, Claire Carlson collected a pair of goals, and Kori King and Cassandra Berger each finished with a goal each. UD led in shots in the first half 11-8, but the Knights battled in the second half to out shoot UD 13-6. Tjaarda and Berger both caused three turnovers each, Tjaarda led in draw controls with four. Kaley Weir started in goal and played for 30:51 to capture the win and finished with five saves. Lindsey Fernandez played in goal for 29:09 and made three saves.
UD trailed in ground balls 12-14, but were successful in 4-8 clear opportunities. The Spartan defense forced the Knights into committing 31 turnovers.
The Spartans next match is at Loras College on April 4 at 7:00 p.m. UD's next home match is on April 11 vs. Carroll in a CCIW match-up at 7:00 p.m.
