Wrestling to Compete at the 25th Annual Concordia University Open

MEQUON, Wis. - The University of Dubuque wrestling team will be competing in the 25th Annual Concordia University Open on Saturday, Nov. 18 against plenty of quality ranked wrestlers. Teams: Concordia Wisconsin, Elmhurst, Harper (Ill.), Lakeland, Loras, MSOE, North Central, Triton (Ill.), Chicago, UD, UW-LaCrosse, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Parkside, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Whitewater, Wabash, Wartburg and Wheaton.

As one of the premier early season tournaments in the NCAA Division III, the 25th CUW Wrestling Open will again prove to be a strong test for the first month of the season.

Wartburg, the defending NCAA III National champions and currently ranked No. 1 in the latest NWCA Division III poll, returns a veteran lineup with a celebrated recruiting class. No. 5 Wabash opened on November 4 by winning the Adrian Invitational with six champions out of the 10 weight classes.

Other notes: Chicago won a 31-9 dual at Elmhurst on Tuesday...MSOE freshman Helton Vandenbush won the UW-Oshkosh Dan Gable Open last weekend at 174 lbs....UW-Parkside had five individual champions at the UW-Stevens Point Open on November 4...Wheaton was fourth out of 11 teams at the Trine (Ind.) Invitational last weekend, but dropped a 31-16 dual to Elmhurst on November 9...UD's Kalkbrenner was fourth at the Luther Open and UD placed three in the finals in the Silver Division...On November 7 UW-Whitewater defeated UW-Oshkosh 27-11 and the Warhawks 197-pounder Newman was d3wrestle.com Wrestler-Of-The-Week after taking second at the Luther Open last weekend...Lakeland won their home opener last week over Concordia Wisconsin 28-19...A team to watch is North Central, who defeated MacMurray 55-0, then captured the 11-team Trine Invitational with three champions...North Central also defeated No. 12 Augustana in a home dual Wednesday, 24-15.
