Box Score

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque baseball team was held to just three hits on Friday afternoon and fell to Luther College, 6-1.

How It Happened
-The game was a pitcher’s duel from the beginning, with neither team recording a hit in the first two innings.
-Luther struck first in the third with a two-out single through the left slide to plate one run.
-The Norse added another in the fifth but the Chase Kueter avoided any more damage by getting a ground ball to get a runner out at home and a strike out to strand two runners.
-UD got within one run in the sixth, which began with a perfectly placed bunt from Jack Lasswell down the third baseline. JJ Valencia got hit by a pitch to put two runners on with no outs. A fly out allowed Lasswell to tag to third, and would eventually score on a Thomas Kempf fielder’s choice.
-The Spartans threatened in the eighth, drawing back-to-back two out walks, and Thomas Kempf got a hold of one for a line drive to right field that was twisting the Luther right fielder around but made the grab at the very last second to retire the side.
-The Norse broke the game open in the top half of the ninth with four runs on four hits.
