Bass and Duffy Earn A-R-C Accolades

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – University of Dubuque’s Alec Bass (Cross Country) and Sean Duffy (Football), earned athlete of the week honors for the respective sport after their performances over the weekend.

Alec Bass (Spring Green, Wis./River Valley) had a historic weekend on his way to A-R-C Male Runner of the Week honors. Bass became the first Spartans cross country runner to win a conference championship since 1962. Bass won the American Rivers Conference title in a time of 26:03.04, the third fastest 8k time in school history. This is the second time this season (9/2) and the third time in his career that he was been named conference male runner of the week. Bass will look to carry the momentum over to the NCAA Regionals in two weeks.

Sean Duffy (Anchorage, Alaska/West Anchorage) earned Offensive Football Player of the Week honors for the first time in his young career after a six touchdown performance in UD’s 54-35 homecoming victory over Nebraska Wesleyan. Duffy completed 24 passes on 31 attempts for 367 yards, six touchdowns with a long pass of 60. Duffy led the Spartans to 609 total yards of offense. The Spartans travel to Simpson this weekend in a battle for first place in the American Rivers Conference as both teams sit at 5-1 in conference play and 6-2 overall.
