Big First Half Propels Women's Soccer Over Simpson

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team continued their winning ways on Saturday night as they rolled past Simpson College in an American Rivers Conference matchup, 4-2.

How It Happened
-After posting six goals on Monday, the Spartan offense stayed hot on Saturday. In the 16th minute the Spartans took advantage of a corner kick as they do so often when Alexa Martin found Amanda Chlebek for the game’s first goal.
-Just over two minutes later, Alexa Martin launched a shot from 55 yards out that bounced over the Storm goalkeeper to push the UD lead to 2-0 before the game was even 20 minutes old.
-Lexus Rose got in on the scoring action in the 34th minute when she found the back post from eight yards out.
-Simpson broke the shutout in the 62nd minute on a shot that was booted from just outside the 18 yard box and found it’s way past Victoria Roethler.
-UD’s Olivia Sullivan found the back of the net for the first time this season in the 73rd minute off of a set piece from the top of the box to push the UD lead back to three.
-Alexa Martin and Victoria Roethler picked up yellow cards in the 78th minute giving Simpson a penalty kick which they converted to make it a 4-2 game, where the score would hold for the remainder of the time.
