Drake Relays Results   Grand View Results

DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Dubuque track and field team's were spread out across Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, competing in both the Drake Relays and the Grand View Vikings Classic.

Alec Bass was the first Spartan to compete on the blue oval on late Friday night, running in the 10,000m run that was a part of the distance carnival. Bass placed 17th after running the 10,000 meters in 31:39.39.

The women’s 4x100 got the running events started for UD on Friday morning. The relay team of Ailes-Primes, Beeman, Skrove, Burks placed third in the fifth heat after posting a time of 48.25, but finished 12th out of 34 overall relay teams to just miss out on qualifying for the finals. The UD men 4x100 relay team followed the women, however, the men were disqualified.

Blaze Murfin began his hectic weekend with the shot put on Friday afternoon. Murfin scratched on his first two throws before launching the shot 17.47m/57-3.75 to vault him to 11th place, where he would finish after just missing out on the top eight finals. Murfin was battling against Division I competition and had the second best mark of any non-division I thrower. Murfin’s busy relays will continue on Saturday with the discus and hammer throws.

On the women’s field side, Kelsey Betthauser’s best throw in the discus came on her very first throw Betthauser threw the discus 40.83m/133-11 before scratching on her final two tosses of the opening round to finish 27th amongst Division I competition.

The men’s sprint medley team of Ellis, Steed, Pointer and Rumple wrapped up Friday at the blue oval under the lights. The sprint medley took second place in the second heat, in a blazing and school record time of 3:29.33 to finish seventh overall.
