Butler Named A-R-C Men's Hoops Player of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The first year Spartan, Avery Butler of men's basketball, was named American Rivers Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his play during the opening week of the season. 

Spartans were 1-1 in their first two games, losing to Millikin in the opener and defeating Greenville 110-102 on Saturday. Butler (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) had a remarkably efficient first two games, making 23-of-26 from the floor (88.5%). In the win over Greenville, he exploded for a game-high 39 points against the Panthers on 18-of-20 FG and 3-of-8 FT shooting, the second most field goals made in a single game in program history.

Against Millikin he was just as efficient, with 11 points on 5-of-6 from the floor. Over the course of the two games he had three blocks and added 24 rebounds with 11 against Millikin and 13 in the win over Greenville.

The Spartans hit the floor next on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. when they host the Edgewood Eagles.
