ROCKFORD, Ill. – After having to postpone their match against Beloit two different times, the University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse team finally got the game against Beloit in on Wednesday afternoon in Loves Park, Illinois. The Spartans fell victim to the Bucs at the Indoor Sports Complex at MercyHealth Sportscenter Two, 20-10.

The Spartans came out on top of their game against Beloit as Michael Jango found the back of the net 1:29 into the game. Jango did not waste much time scoring again, scoring another unassisted goal 44 seconds later to give UD the quick 2-0 lead.  Beloit answered back just 10 seconds later to make it 2-1 but UD added to their lead just 37 seconds later with a Jake Herman goal with an assist from Zach Schmitt. Schmitt made his presence felt 90 seconds later when he assisted on yet another UD goal, this time to Davis Berhns to make it 4-1 in favor of UD.

The high scoring first quarter continued, as Beloit would score four of the next five goals over a two and a half minute span to tie the game at five all at the halfway point of the first quarter. Tanner Weis would put the Spartans back on top with 6:35 to play in the first quarter when he took a pass from Michael Jango and sent it into the back of the net. The assist was Jango’s 100th career assist.

Beloit would score the final three goals of the first quarter to lead 8-6 after one frame. After having plenty of offense in the opening quarter, the UD offense went quiet, not scoring another goal until the 7:36 mark of the third quarter to cut the deficit down to 15-7. Beloit prevented the Spartans from scoring back-to-back goals for the remainder of the contest to prevent any chance of a UD comeback.

After scoring the first two goals of the game, Michael Jango finished the afternoon with a hat trick on eight shots. Jake Herman and Ben Gallagher both had multi goal games as well, each scoring a pair. Ethan Senesac led the Spartans with six ground balls. UD won 10 of the first 15 faceoffs  but managed to win just five of the final 18 over the last three quarters.
