Apr 1, 2019

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse goalie, Samuel Kopecky, has been named Defensive Player of the Week by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Kopecky got the start in the net in all three of UD’s game’s last week where the Spartans picked up wins over Monmouth and Concordia-Chicago, while falling to Marian. Kopecky grabbed 36 saves over three games, including 18 in an overtime win over Monmouth. Kopecky racked up a save percentage of .610 over the course of the week while allowing just 7.06 goals per game after facing 115 shots.

He is the first Spartan to earn CCIW Player of the Week honors since Terrance Green earned offensive player of the week honors for the week of March 19th in 2018. He is also the first Spartan in program history to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Kopecky and the Spartans return to the field on Wednesday, April 3rd, when they travel to Augustana College. Game time against the Vikings is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Rock Island, Illinois.
