FON DU LAC, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse team made up their postponed game against Marian University on Sunday night, falling to the Sabres, 11-8.

Marian jumped out to the quick lead, scoring the first two goals of the game before the game was five minutes old. The Spartans did not shy away and answered right back, scoring two of the next three goals to go into the second quarter trailing by just one goal.

The Sabres stifled the Spartans in the second quarter, scoring four straight goals to put the Spartans behind in a 7-2 hole. Michael Jango snapped the drought, finding the back of the net with 3:27 left in the second quarter to make it 7-3. However, Marian snuck in one last goal before the halftime buzzer to send UD into halftime trailing 8-3.

In the second half, the two teams alternated the seven first goals of the half to prevent any chance of a Spartan comeback. The Spartans could not string together two straight goals in the second half until there was 51 seconds left and by then it was too late.

Michael Jango led the way for UD with four goals on 13 shots. Gavin Hughes was the only other Spartan with multiple goals with two. Nick Wallace and Dominic Mulcahy combined to pick up 10 ground balls, both scooping up a team-high five.

UD goalie Samuel Kopecky had a save percentage of .500 on Sunday afternoon, stopping 11 Sabre shots on goal.

The Spartans had the slight edge in the faceoff circle, winning 12-23.

The Spartans travel to Monmouth, Illinois on Tuesday to take on Monmouth College at 6:00 p.m.
