How It Happened
-To begin the match, the Spartans carried the attack momentum over from the 25 shot performance in the win against Coe on Saturday as Axel Aamen fired a shot in the opening minute against the Dutch.
-The Dutch first real threat of the night came in the 26th minute when a Central shot went off the crossbar, right to another Dutch player who was wide open, but it went off his hand and the ball was awarded back to UD to stop the scoring threat.
-The first team to break through was Central, as they sent a low cross from the far left side of the field by the flag, which was one timed into the back of the net to put the Spartans in a 1-0 deficit late in the first half.
-The Spartans attack found it’s rhythm again in the second half and put the pressure on the Dutch. Aaman began the second much like the first, this time he sent a head inches above the crossbar in the opening minutes of the half.
-Aaman continued to make is presence felt, in the 60th minute he sent a shot towards the goal but was saved by a diving Dutch goalkeeper to stay trailing 1-0.
-The Spartan attack was constantly pressuring the Dutch in the second half, in the 65th minute, Roody Joinvil came crashing into the box to jump kick a cross but the shot sailed just right of the post.
-In the 72nd minute, Aaman had his fifth and final shot of the night, this one also sailing just high of the goal.
-The Spartans had one last attack, with 1:40 left in the game and still down 1-0, UD sent a corner near the goal, which found the head of Joshua Merkle but once again, the Spartan shot went just high of the net.
