Men's Soccer Suffer Hard-Fought Road Loss

LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Dubuque men’s soccer team had their chances to get a road victory on Wednesday night but fell short and were upended by Nebraska Wesleyan, 2-1.

How It Happened
- Dominik Chece had an open look at the net in the 10th minute but was falling down as he shot it and the ball tailed off left.
-Chece had another great look in the 36th minute, this time his shot went right.
-The Spartan attack continued to pressure NWU, in the 39th minute it looked as if UD would have a shot from point blank range but they were called offside.
-One of the best NWU chances of the first half came in the 39th minute on a free kick from 35 yards out but missed the cross bar by a foot.
-Shortly after, Nebraska Wesleyan got the first goal of the contest in the 41st minute off of a cross to the back post when it was put in.
-Chece’s kept shooting and was finally rewarded in the 56th minute when he headed in a long pass from Chris Rigby to even up the score at 1-1.
-The tie did not last long as Nebraska Wesleyan answered back less than 20 seconds later, when a bouncing ball in the box ended up at the foot of a Prairie Wolf, who sent a shot past a diving Brandon White.
-A Spartan counter attack with 13 and a half minutes remaining led to a Spartan free kick from about 40 yards which led to a corner kick. UD could not get a shot off the corner but they were fouled and awarded another free kick, this time from about 20 yards out but the shot off of that went way over the net.
-The Spartans had one last push in them in the final two minutes. Earning a corner kick and a free kick but the only shot came from Chris Rigby on the free kick and it sailed high

Notes
-Dominik Chece lead UD with five shot attempts
-UD outshot NWU, 17-12 and took more corners with six to NWU’s four.
-With the loss, the Spartans will have to win both of their remaining games and get some help in order to qualify for the American Rivers Conference Tournament.
