Mitchell's Home Run Lifts Spartans Over Storm

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque baseball team snapped a three game skid with a 4-2 win over Simpson College in game one of their weekend series.

How it Happened
-After no scoring threats in the first two innings, the Storm broke through first in the top of the third but the Spartans answered right back in the bottom half of the inning when Kellen Mitchell singled to centerfield to plate Jack Lasswell from second base.
-Daulton Kvenvold singled to begin the fourth inning for UD and worked his way around the bases until Jarad Clevenger came up with a clutch two-out hit to score Kvenvold and give UD their first lead of the day.
-Simpson knotted the game at two all in the top of the fifth with a two-out base knock of their own to score a run.
-The scoring continued in the bottom of the fifth when Kellen Mitchell launched a home run over the right centerfield fence. It was the first home run by any Spartan this season.
-UD tacked on an insurance run in the seventh when Jack Lasswell doubled to left center and scored on a suicide squeeze off the bat of JJ Valencia for the 4-2 lead.
-Nathan Schneiderman took over for starter Chase Kueter in the eighth, mowing down six of the seven Storm batters that he face to shut down the Storm with little drama
