Results From Day One of A-R-C Track and Field Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque track and field had a solid showing on the first day of the American Rivers Conference Championships, with Blaze Murfin picking up the lone title on day one in the shot put.

Blaze Murfin did was he usually does and took home the conference title in the shot put with a throw of 17.53m. He out threw the competition by nearly two full meters as the second place finisher threw 15.69m. Zachary Naatz also came away with all-conference honors in the shot put as he threw a best throw of 15.02m to finish fifth. Jaelen Boysen picked up points for the Spartans in the long jump as he finished seventh after jumping 6.53m. Phillip Senn made the medal stand in the pole vault, finishing sixth with a top jump of 4.01m. On the prelims side, Dylan Kutsch qualified for Saturday’s 60m dash finals after running it in 7.03s.

For the UD women, they picked up three third places finishes on Friday night. It began with Grace Dupuy in the shot put, as she tossed a long of 12.64m for her third place finish. Kayla Schlichting joined Dupuy on the medal stand as she finished fifth in the shot after throwing 12.55. In the pole vault, Jenna Heimark put up a mark of 3.10m and  Demetria Johnson had a best jump of 5.25m in the long jump to close out the scoring for the Spartans on the night. Out of the prelims on Friday, the Spartans advanced Demetria Johnson in the 60m hurdles and Ya’Mia Ailes-Primes in the 60m dash to the finals on Saturday.
