Shorthanded Spartans Lose to Duhawks

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women’s lacrosse team faced off against crosstown rival, Loras, on Wednesday night, falling to the Duhawks, 18-4.

The Spartans spotted the Duhawks the first three goals of the game before Kori King scored on an unassisted goal in the fifth minute to get the Spartans on the board and make it 3-1. The Duhawks were tough to slowdown for the remainder of the half, rattling off the next nine goals to make it 12-1. UD pulled within 10 when Kori King found the back of the net with 4:46 to play in the first half for her second goal of the game.

Kori King completed the hat trick midway through the second half after taking a pass from Kristen Lancaster and getting the shot past the Loras goalie. Sara Rose would take advantage of a Duhawk penalty in the final minutes, for the unassisted, man-advantage goal, the Spartans fourth and final goal of the game.

UD goalie, Gemma Keegan, was making her first start of the season, collecting 14 saves, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

To go along with her three goals, King also led the Spartans in ground balls, scooping up four.
