ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The University of Dubuque softball team played errorless on Saturday to capture two wins on the road. UD beat hosts Augustana 4-2 with Kayla Breunig earning the victory on the mound and stopping Illinois College early in six innings in a 10-2 win with Lexi Schmidt collecting the win, her seventh of the season.
In the opener UD jumped out to the early lead after scoring a run in the fourth and fifth innings. Host Augie tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth before UD rallied to re-capture the lead 4-2 off a two RBI single to Kylee Biedermann for the game winning hit. Breunig did what she needed to do in the bottom of the seventh by forcing Augie into two ground outs and a final fly out to end the game. UD scored four runs on nine hits.
In the second game, UD scored four runs in the opening inning to jump to an early 4-0 lead. Allison Yager doubled to right center earning three RBI's in the inning. Illinois College added two runs in the second to slice into the Spartans lead 4-2. The Spartans responded by adding four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to stretch their lead to 8-2. The inning was highlighted by a homerun by Kaylin Featheringill and also Brandy Heraty. UD scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game early. UD scored 10 runs off 10 hits to earn their 11th win of the season (11-4 overall).
The Spartans continue play on Sunday, March 24 vs, Illinois College at 11 a.m. and vs. Augustana at 3 p.m.
