DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team collected the sweep over the Loras Colleger Duhawks in the Strikeout Cancer doubleheader on Saturday. UD trailed game one and would score six runs on five hits in the top of the seventh to collect a 9-4 victory. In game two, UD jumped out to an early lead only to have the host Duhawks rally back with five runs off six hits in the bottom of the fifth. The Spartans led 8-7 foing into the sixth inning and added two run off two hits as Rachel Trader homered. In the bottom of the seventh, Loras would score two runs off three hits, but would fall short after leaving two runners on base as UD took the win 10-9.

The UD/Loras Strikeout Cancer game  have raised over $21,000 since 2012 for cancer research. Last year, the Spartans and Duhawks teamed up to donate $7,059.00 to the American Cancer Society. All donations in 2019 will go to the Red Shamrock Foundation.

The two hot bats were Rachel Trader amd Kylee Biedermann who would both finish the afternoon going 4-8 at the plate with four RBI's each. Trader sent the ball deep twice with a pair of homeruns and Biedermann had one homerun. Kayla Breunig earned the win in game one after tossing four innings and striking out three. In the second game, Lexi Schmidt collected the complete game win after facing 39 batters.

The Spartans continue their schedule at Central College on Tuesday, April 16 at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 17 at Cornell at 4 p.m., and return home to play Buena Vista University on Good Friday, April 19 at 1 p.m.
