Softball End Friday with Sweep and a Perfect Game

CLERMONT, Fla. - The University of Dubuque softball team swept on Friday, ending a pair of games early in five innings. The Spartans Abby McBee pitched a perfect game against Pittsburgh-Greensburg in a scoreless 9-0 victory. She didn't give up a hit, allow a walk, and struck out five and faced just 15 batters to earn the win. The Spartans captured their second win of the day with a 9-1 victory over Wheaton College also in five innings. Lexi Schmidt earned the win on the mound and improved to 5-2 on the season.

The Spartans hitting has improved to .312 as a team with Deanna Origer leading the offense with .512 and has 21 hits in 41 at bats and has scored 13 runs after 12 games. Kaylin Featheringill trails closely behind with a .442 batting average. The pair have 11 RBI's each with teammate Brandy Heraty leading the Spartans with 15 RBI's.

The team's ERA is 2.11 and have thrown 10 complete 10 games in 79.2 innings with 48 strike outs in 305 at bats. Abby McBee leads with an ERA of 1.88 in 18.2 innings of action with 14 strike outs. Kayla Breunig ranks second on the team with a 2.10 ERA after 20 innings and has the lowest batting average with a .194. Lexi Schmidt has a 2.22 ERA with a team leading 20 strike outs.

Defensively UD improved to .965 and have committed just 12 errors in 327 chances.
