CLERMONT, Fla. - The University of Dubuque softball team needed to rally in the sixth inning to capture their final game on Saturday over Marietta College by a 7-5 score. UD dug themselves in a hole after committing three errors, but scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the hard fought victory. Game two scheduled vs. Concordia (WI) was won by the weather and rained out ending the Spartans with an 8-1 spring break record and a 9-4 overall mark.
Lexi Schmidt captured her sixth win of the season with a complete seven inning game. She faced 33 batters, gave up 10 hits and three earned runs. Kaylin Featheringill led the offense by going 3-3 at the plate. She improved to .442, and has a slugging poercentage of .747. Deana Origer leads the hitting with a .512 average and has a team leading 21 hits this season.
The Spartans return to the Midwest on Sunday and will play next weekend in the Augustana Tournament in Rock Island, Ill.
