Softball Sweeps as Bats Warm Up

CLERMONT, Fla. - The University of Dubuque have extended their win streak to four games on Thursday after sweeping past Lasell College by a 7-1 score and then ending the night with a 11-1 win over Marywood University.
"Pitching is doing a great job of shutting down offenses and keeping the games low scoring, " added Head Coach Jeff Lamb. "Offensively we are coming around." Coming around they did as the women racked up 12 hits vs. Lasell and 13 hits to Marywood. The Spartans Brandy Heraty had the hot bat and finished with a homerun in each game and ended the day with seven RBI's for the senior first baseman. Deanna Origer was 6-8 at the plate, finished with four RBI's, and scored five runs as teammate Kaylin Featheringill went 4-8 while adding two runs in the leadoff position.
Twenty Spartans saw the field in the victory over Marywood. After leading 6-1, the Spartans offense would continue with adding an additional five runs at the top of the seventh to put the game away. Strong pitching all day on Thursday kept UD's opponents scrambling to get a base runner. Kayla Breunig faced 26 batters and fanned seven for the complete seven inning win over Lasell. She allowed just thee hits and walked just two batters and captured her first win of the season. Lexi Schmidt faced 28 Marywood batters and struck out eight and never allowed a walk in the win. She gave up one unearned run in four hits to improve to 4-2 overall.
Defensively the Spartans committed only two errors and look to continue their efforts on Friday afternoon vs. Pittsburgh-Greensburg and Friday night vs. Wheaton College.
