DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team was held to four hits in each game on Saturday as the visiting Wartburg College Knights captured the sweep by winning game one by a 7-3 margin and holding the Spartans scoreless in game two by a 2-0 final.
The Spartans offense was led by Kaylin Featheringill who finished the afternoon with three hits. The Knights scattered 11 hits in game one and would finish with nine hits in game two. UD falls to 14-9 overall and 1-5 in American Rivers Conference action. Featheringill leads the team in batting with a .460 average trailes clsoely by Deanna Origer who has a .354 hitting percentage. Brandy Heraty leads RBI's with 23 this season with Origer with 17 and Featheringill with 16.
On the mound Abby McBee has an ERA of 1.86 in 26.1 innings pitched. Kayla Bruenig has an ERA of 2.53 in 44.1 inning thrown, and Lexi Schmidt has an ERA of 2.53 in 85.2 innings pitched. All three pitchers for the Sparans have one shutout.
UD (14-9, 1-5 A-R-C) returns to action on Tuesday, April 9 when they host UW-Platteville Pioneers and on the following day, Wednesday, April 10 the Spartans will face the Cornell College Rams. Both contests will be doubleheaders and will start at 3 p.m.
