Spartans Begin Postseason Push on Saturday

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team will play host to the Central Dutch on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the first round of the American Rivers Conference Tournament.

The Spartans closed out the regular season with a 13-3-1 overall record and 5-2-1 in conference play after a 1-0 loss to Luther on Tuesday night, dropping them from the three to the four seed. Central finished the 2018 regular season with records of 10-6-1 and 4-4. UD and Central met less than a month ago when the Spartans upended the Dutch 1-0 in Dubuque.

Feeling at Home
-UD has protected home turf this season, going 6-1-1 at Oyen Field.

A-R-C Honors
-Senior Lauren Cangelosi earned A-R-C Offensive Player of the Week and Female of the Week for her play against Nebraska Welseyan and Buena Vista on Oct. 17 and Oct. 20. The senior scored the overtime game winner against Nebraska Wesleyan in a 1-0 win. She also scored a goal and had an assists in the victory over Buena Vista.  

Dominant Defense
-The Spartans have limited opponents to just 16 goals over 17 games (.94 per game), the second fewest in the A-R-C.
-UD has held opponents to one goal or less in 13 games, including six shutouts.
