How It Happened

-Just like in game one of the doubleheader, the Spartan offense wasted little time scoring in the top of the first. The rally began when Jack Lasswell and Jarad Clevenger both reached on errors. With two down and Lasswell and Clevenger on second and third, Zach McCoy singled up the middle to score both to jump ahead 2-0.
-The score remained 2-0 in favor of UD until the bottom of the fifth inning, the Dutch would trim the UD lead to 2-1 after UD pitcher, Chase Kueter was called for a balk with runners on second and third. Kueter was able to get a strike out and fly out to get out the inning only allowing the one run.
-Central would gain their first lead of the day with a two-out, two-two run home run in the bottom of the sixth to vault ahead, 3-2.
-That Dutch would would not last for long as UD's Luke Carroll delivered a two-run home run of his own in the top half of the seventh to spring the Spartans back on top, 4-3. UD threatened to add more in the seventh after the homer but stranded two runs.
-Kueter got himself into a jam in the bottom of the eighth inning as Central put together two singles and a walk to load the bases with two outs but Kueter foze the insuing batter to get out of the jam and send UD into the ninth still up 4-3.
-The Spartans grabbed an insurance run in the top of the ninth by using the squeeze play, a play that the Spartans have used frequently this season. The inning began when Luke Carroll reached on an error and advanced to second on a passed ball. A bunt by the nine hitter, Jordan Goldstein moved Carroll to third before scoring on the squeeze play off the bat of Jack Lasswell.
-Kueter got the leadoff hitter to pop up to Lasswell at second base before the Dutch put a runner on with a single. Kueter would get back-to-back strikeouts to end the game and give the Spartans the doubleheader sweep and two out of three for the series.
