Box Score

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team fell to rival Loras College in the American Rivers Conference Semifinals on Wednesday night, 3-2

Dubuque, Univ. of 2, Loras College 3

How It Happened
-Both teams wasted little time attacking on Wednesday night, with Loras being awarded a penalty in just the third minute of play. However, UD goalie Victoria Roethler kept the Duhawks off the board with a kick save.
-A minute later Roethler could not keep Loras off the board after a long Loras shot hit the crossbar and deflected right to a wide open Duhawk who buried it into the back of net.
-The Spartans answered back four minutes later in the eighth when the Spartans got a corner kick of their own. Lauren Cangelosi took the penalty kick for the UD and even though the Loras goalkeeper guessed the side that Cangelosi sent her show, Cangelosi drilled the shot right by her to even the score at 1-1.
-In the 16th minute, Loras had a corner kick that resulted in two Duhawk headers in the box but Roethler came up with a running save.
-The 1-1 score held until halftime with Loras outshooting UD, 5-4 at the break.
-Loras grabbed their second lead of the game in the 58th minute when a long pass into the box resulted in two Spartans running into each other, leaving the net wide open for an easy Loras goal.
-In the 63rd minute, a UD corner kick led to UD’s second penalty kick of the night after a penalty box, this time Lexus Rose took the shot for the Spartans. Rose fired to the left side of the net and the Loras goalkeeper did not even move to tie the game back up at 2-2.
-Four minutes later, the Spartans committed a foul in the box, giving Loras their second penalty kick of the night and the fourth between both teams. This time, Loras converted to once again grab the lead.
-In the 81st minute, Mary Herra and Alexis Turner were battling in the box amongst several Duhawks and got a shot off but could not get enough on it and was saved.
-The Spartans tried to get a last push over the last several minutes but Loras was able to clear everything out and prevent the Spartans from getting anymore good opportunities.
