DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women’s basketball team battled until the end but fell short against Augustana on Wednesday night, 61-54.

It took a while for both offenses to get going, but Kia Dwight drilled a three pointer just over three minutes in for the first basket of the game and give UD the early lead. A jumper from Abigail Zurcher with 5:53 left in the first quarter pushed the UD lead to 5-2 but Augustana responded with a quick 6-0 run to take the lead for the first time and never relinquished that lead.

The Spartans trailed by five points after the first quarter and could not get back within five points until early in the third quarter after a three from Lexi Daniels. Every time the Spartans cut the Vikings lead to five, Augustana had answer, never letting the Spartans getting back within a one possession game despite UD's harrasing defense and attack on offense.
