University of Dubuque Phi Theta Psi to Host St. Baldrick’s Foundation Head-Shaving Event

Feb 22, 2019

DUBUQUE, Iowa – University of Dubuque Phi Theta Psi will host a St. Baldrick’s Foundation signature head-shaving event to raise funds and awareness for lifesaving childhood cancer research on Saturday, March 23, from noon to 6:00 p.m. in McCormick Gymnasium.

The public is welcome to attend the event and/or have their heads shaved. There will be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and a silent auction with items from Barrel House, Lime Rock Springs Co., and more.

Phi Theta Psi, a co-educational fraternity, raised over $30,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation from 2013 to 2017. This year’s goal is $5,000.

A child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide every two minutes, and more children are lost to cancer in the United States than any other disease, according to the foundation’s website.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures to childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. The foundation coordinates its signature head-shaving events worldwide where participants collect pledges to shave their heads in solidarity with children fighting cancer, raising money to fund research. Since 2005, St. Baldrick’s has invested over $258 million in childhood cancer research grants worldwide.
