Box score vs Millikin   Box Score vs Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Dubuque picked up two more wins on Saturday over Millikin and Wheaton, to go 4-0 on the weekend and push their win streak to six.

Dubuque, Univ. of   (3)  25  18  25  25     16-7
Millikin   (1)  18  25  11  20     10-14

UD and Millikin played and even opening set and were all tied up at 15 when the Spartans went on a run. UD scored seven straight points with Kara Wright serving to pull away and take the first set 25-18. After dropping the second set, the Spartans came out firing on all cylinders in the third, scoring the first six points and never letting Millikin back within five points for the rest of the set, as they cruised to a 25-11 set win. The Spartans did not mess around with putting away Millikin in the fourth set, taking the lead at 4-3 and never looking back. UD would go up by as many as seven in the set and held off Millikin to win the fourth set 25-20 and take the match 3-1.

In the win over Millikin, Kara Wright and Rylee Andresen were the only two Spartans to reach double figures in kills with 15 and 11, respectively. As a team UD hit just .163 for the match, but the Spartans limited Millikin to just .076 hitting. Part of the reason Millikin hit such a low percentage was because of the UD defense at the net, coming up with 10 total team blocks. Paige Harbort led the way with the blocks with one solo and five assists.

Dubuque, Univ. of   (3)  27  25  25     17-7
Wheaton (IL)   (0)  25  22  22     10-13

In the nightcap, UD made quick work of Wheaton by sweeping the match but the three set wins came by a combined eight points. Much like the opening set against Millikin, the opening set was tied midway through, this time at 16 all when UD made its push. UD would rattle off three straight points to go up 19-16 but Wheaton kept fighting and tied it back up at 23 all. After trading points to keep it tied at 25-25, the Spartans got help from a Wheaton attack error and then a Kara Wright kill gave UD the set.

With the Spartans clinging to a 19-18 lead in the second set, Rylee Andresen came through with two kills and a Wheaton error gave the Spartans some breathing room at 22-18. On their fourth attempt at set point, UD finally closed it out with another attack error from Wheaton to move ahead 2-0. Unlike the first two sets, the Spartans finally built an early lead at 11-6 and did not let Wheaton closer than two points for the remainder of the set to take the set and match.

Out of the Spartans 39 kills, Kara Wright led UD with 11, with Rylee Andresen right behind with 10. For the match, Wheaton actually had a better hitting percentage at .189, than UD’s .174. Grace Strawser (14), Kara Wright (11) and Jenna Runde (13) were the three Spartans to reach double figures in digs. After 10 kills in the first match, UD added eight more against Wheaton, this time it was 16 block assists.

The Spartans return home on Tuesday to host UW-Platteville at 7:00 p.m.
