Women's Basketball Rallies Late in Loss

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team fought back from 24 points down on Tuesday night to end the night with a 57-72 loss to the North Central College Cardinals.

The Spartans continue to improve for coach Mark Noll, but gave up a rebounding differential of 52-37 and the Cardinals took advantage of second chance points by scoring fifteen points and adding 20 points off UD's turnovers. UD worked the ball inside and scored 24 points in the paint. Tamya Vaultonburg and Kia Dwight led Spartans with nine points each. Allison Roach and McKenzie Maahs would both add eight points in the loss. Miah Smith led the rebounding effort with seven defensive boards.

UD finished the night sinking 21-64 attempts from the field (32.8%), 4-16 from the three point area (25%), and 11-16 at the free throw line (68.8%). The Spartans would outscore the Cardinals in both the third and fourth quarters and held the visitors to just 10 points in the final 10 minutes of play.

The Spartans dropped to 1-9 overall and will travel to play at the Wittenberg Tournament after the Christmas holiday on Dec. 28-29 in Springfield, Ohio.
