BOX SCORE vs. Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team earned the victory on Monday night over Finlandia by a 90-54 margin in their season opener. UD's Sydney Hazuga tied a school record by sinking seven shots from beyond the three point arc (7-9) and she led all scorers with 23 points. 

UD had just two in double digit scoring, but 14 Spartans would finish the night in the scoring column and 17 saw action in the game. Starter Kia Dwight was 5-9 from the field to end the night with 11 points and also had six steals. UD's defense would force Finlandia into committing 48 turnovers.

The Spartans sank 31-69 attempts from the field (44.9%), 10-25 from the three point area (40%), and 18-26 at the free throw line (69.2%). UD held the rebounding edge 43-39.

UD (1-0) will travel to play UW-Stevens Point on Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. before facing UW-Whitewater on Nov. 17 at 3 p.m.
