Women's Lacrosse Downed on Road at Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Dubuque women’s lacrosse team began their three game road trip with a 20-2 loss to the University of Chicago.

Chicago won the opening draw control and took the ball right down the field to score in the opening 15 seconds. UD would fall behind 8-0 in the opening seven minutes, when Sara Rose would score the Spartans first goal of the game with 21:06 left in the first half and right after UD goalie, Kaley Weir, stopped a Chicago free position shot.

UD would go into halftime trailing 13-1, but the Spartans opening the second half scoring. After a Chicago turnover, Julianne Galante would find the back of the cage for UD’s second goal of the game with 26:17 to play in the game. However, that would be the final goal of the day for the Spartans and Chicago would tally the final seven goals to down the Spartans, 20-2.

UD goalkeeper, Kaley Weir, continues to battle and played all 60 minutes on Saturday, coming up with 11 saves in the defeat. Weir also came away with a game-high six ground balls. The Spartans did force Chicago into 16 turnover.

The Spartan women step out of CCIW action on Tuesday, April 23rd, to take on UW-River Falls in River Falls, Wisconsin at 4:00 p.m.
