Women's Lacrosse Drops CCIW Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa - On a windy day in Dubuque, the University of Dubuque women's lacrosse team fell victim to the 9-1 North Central Cardinals, 20-2.

The game got started on a high note for the Spartans, earning a free position shot just 26 seconds into the game, where Kori King would convert for the game's first goal. The pace would stay in favor of the Spartans until North Central found their rhythm and rattled off seven straight goals over a five and a half minute span. Sara Rose snapped the streak with an unassisted goal at the 18:29 mark of the first half. 

Despite, several more good looks, the Spartans were held scoreless for the final 48:29. UD was forced to play a majority of the second half a player down due to injuries. 

Sara Rose and Kori King teamed up to win seven of UD's nine draw controls, Rose with four and King with three. King also shared the team-high lead of ground balls of four with Carolyn Clemens.

Kaley Weir battled on Saturday afternoon, coming up with 14 saves, 10 of which came in the second half.
