How It Happened
-With wind gusts around 40 mph, the Spartans decided to take the wind in the first half to set up their attack.
-UD wasted no time, getting shots by Robinson and Cangelosi in the first 45 seconds of play.
-On their seventh shot in the opening 11 minutes, the Spartans finally scored when Lauren Cangelosi stole a bad goal kick and fired a shot from the right side of the box and about 15 yards out, the ball went off the left post and in to give UD the early 1-0 lead.
-In the 38th, Cangelosi saved the ball from going out on the Buena Vista goalline and sent a pass right to Hannah Sawyer in the middle of the box who one timed it into the back of the net.
-Moments later, Alexa Martin sent a cross from the right side of the field to Lexus Rose who converted and put the Spartans up 3-0 late in the first half.
-The Spartans took full advantage of having the wind at their back in the first half, firing off 21 shots and did not allow Buena Vista to attempt one.
-The Beavers finally attempted their first shot of the game in 68th minute but it was blocked.
-Alexis Turner almost gave the Spartans a four goal lead in the 71st minute but the Buena Vista goalie came charging out and made a sliding save as soon as it came off the foot of Turner.
-Despite going into the strong wind in the second half, the Spartans continued to impose their will on the Beavers, outshooting them 11-4 in the second half.
