Cross Country Battles At UW-LaCrosse Drews/Neubauer Invitational

LACROSSE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque cross country teams battled tough competition at the Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational on Saturday afternoon, with the men finishing 11th out of 21 teams and the women finishing 18th.

The Spartan men kicked off the day and did so on a high note with Tyler Cernohous setting a personal best by 26 seconds with a 27th place finish in 25:52.58 to lead the Spartan runners. Mark Biechler was not far behind Cernohous, finishing 31st and breaking the 26 minute mark for the first time in his career with a finishing time of 25:54.55. Joseph Tobin and Tavian Rumple finished just one second apart with times of 27:09.5 and 27:10.6, to finish 122nd and 124th, respectively. Jacob Heitter and Michael Orcutt rounded out the top six UD runners with finishes of 27:27.2 and 27:30.7, respectively. Those times placed them in 149th and 156th. As a team the UD men placed 11th out of 21 teams.

The UD women finished 18th and were led by freshman Stacey Kloft. Kloft posted a season best time of 25:13.3 on her way to finishing 128th. Lucy Syverson trailed Koft by just 12 seconds to run the 6k finish 148th in a time of 25:25.4. Isabelle Mazzanti and Bailey Hammerand finished just four spots in 185th and 189th, respectively. Mazzanti ran the 6k event in 26:06.7 and Hammerand finished in 26:12.7.  

This was the final tuneup for the 2019 Amercian Rivers Conference Championships. The Spartans are hosting the championships on Saturday, Nov. 2nd at the Dubuque Soccer Complex beginning at 11 a.m.
