Men's Basketball Capture Conference Opener, Remain Unbeaten

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team would close out the final few minutes of the first half with a 17-0 run to take and hold the lead at the break 40-35. UD led by as many as 12 points in the final half of action and would sink their free throws down the stretch to capture the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) opener 77-68 over the Simpson Storm.

Peter Ragen held the hot hand in the opening 20 minutes and he led UD in the first half with 20 points and would finish with 27 points. Avery Butler would trail closely behind with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and seven blocks in the victory. Mitch Burger added 13 points and four assists. The Spartans made 25-62 shots from the field (40.3%), dropped 10-33 three point attempts (33.3%), and sank 17-29 free throw attempts (58.6%). Thirteen student-athletes saw action on Tuesday night with nine scoring.

The Spartans improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the A-R-C and will host Millkin University on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. in Stoltz Sports Center on Jon Davison Court. UD will play host to the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairiewolves in another A-R-C match-up on Dec. 7 at 4 p.m.
