Men's Soccer Beats Grinnell 3-1 In Rain

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men’s soccer team posted a 3-1 win over Grinnell College, with three different goal scoreres, on a wet Saturday in Dubuque.

How It Happened
-As the rain started to come down harder in the 20th minute, Roody Joivil found Axel Aaman off of a loose ball on the right side of the 18, who made man miss and then skipped a shot off the wet turf past a diving goalie and into the left side of the net for the early 1-0 lead.
-In the 38th minute, the Spartans were close to tacking on another goal, Suman Husseini sent a curving shot from 15 yards out but it was saved by a diving Grinnell goalkeeper.
-It was an even first half, with time of possession favoring the spartans 52% to 48% and the teams attempted just a combined three shots on goal, but it was UD that got the only goal of the half.
-UD began the second half with a bang, in the 50th minute, Mathias Ericsson had the ball on the goal line and sent a pass into the box, getting tipped by a Pioneer defender before Roody Joinvil taped it in with a back heel move for the 2-0 lead.
-Grinnell cut the UD back to one with 12 minutes to play after Grinnell beat UD goalie Brandon White to prevent the shutout.
-The Spartans got the goal right back when Jonny Mueller took advantage of a free kick from about 20 yards out on the left side of the box. Mueller sent a laser into the top, left corner of the net for an insurance goal in the 84th minute.
