MONMOUTH, Ill. - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team wrapped up an impressive opening weekend with a 2-0 road win at Monmouth College behind goals from Glorie Luwara and Roody Joinvil.

UD put the Monmouth defense on its heals early, with Mathias Ericsson getting the first shot of the game off just 55 seconds in. The Spartans would continue to attack as they would go on to outshoot the Fighting Scots in the game 22-6.

Midway through the first half, the Spartans finally got a shot through when Glorie Luwara converted on a header after a cross from Mathias Ericsson to grab the 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute, and the score would hold their through the opening 45 minutes.

23 minutes into the second half and the 68th minute of the game, the Spartans doubled their lead with a beautiful curling shot off the foot of Roody Joinvil that found the top corner of the net to give UD breathing room.

With the 2-0 lead, the Spartan defense held its ground, not allowing the Monmouth to take a shot over the final 35 minutes of the contest to preserve the shutout for the Spartans.

The Spartan men return to action next Saturday when they host Elmhurst College at 3:00 p.m.
