Men's Soccer Draws With UW-Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Dubuque men's soccer team out UW-Platteville on Wednesday night but neither team had luck finding the back of the net, leading to a 0-0 tie.

How It Happened
-The first shot of the game for the Spartans came off the foot of Glorie Luwara in the eighth minute, but it sailed wide right.
-11 minutes later came UD’s first shot on net from Josh Merkel but it was saved UW-Platteville starting goalie, Nate Miller.
-In a defensive first half, the Spartans outshot the Pioneers 6-5, with each team putting two on net.
-In the 61st minute, UD had a free kick from about 20 yards out on the left side of the box, but the line shot Jonny Mueller went right above the top, right corner of the goal to keep it 0-0.
-With the game still scoreless in the 87th minute, UD drew a corner kick in which Ahmed Alruwali floated a perfect ball into a crowded box but a UD header went high.
-The game remained scoreless after 90 minutes, sending the game into overtime. It was the Spartans who got the first shot in overtime, coming just 90 seconds in but just as what had happened so many times in the game already, the shot sailed high.
-UD’s Glorie Luwara picked up a red card in the 97th minute, forcing the Spartans to play a man down the remainder of the way.
-Despite playing a man down, UD attempted the only three shots of the second overtime, however, one sailed high and the other two were saved and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
