Men's Soccer Suffers Heartbreaker at #24 Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men's soccer team come out firing on all cylinders, scoring four first half goals to take a 4-0 lead, but #24 Loras stormed back and scored the final five goals to stun the Spartans, 5-4 in overtime.

How It Happened
-The Spartans put the pressure on the 24th ranked Duhawks early. In the fifth minute, UD took a free kick from the edge of the 18, the shot was wide right but was deflected by a Loras defender to give UD the early corner kick. The corner into the box ended up in a flurry in front of the net where Victor Bremstedt finally got ahold of it and and fired it into the back of the net for the 1-0 UD lead.
-The UD attack continued to make their presence felt, drawing another corner kick. A perfectly lofted ball into the box, led to yet another scramble in the box, this time Joel Johansson back heeled it home with his back to the net to lift UD ahead 2-0.
-UD would not let up, after a harmless corner kick was corralled by UD goalie Brandon White, he launched a kick over midfield that would land at the feet of Roody Joinvil. Joinvil would race up the middle of the field and eventually found a streaking Gloire Luwara on the right side of the box who one timed it home for the Spartans to give them a 3-0 lead.
-Everything kept coming up right for the Spartans in the first half of the first half. A throw in from UD was headed out by a Loras defender, where it found Mathias Ericsson at the top of the box. Ericsson settled it and fired a laser that went through traffic and found its way into the back of the yet for yet another UD goal, making it 4-0 in the 22nd minute. 
-Loras would get one of those goals back in the 28th with a header to a one timer of a kick snuck its way past Brandon White to cut the UD lead to 4-1, where it would hold until halftime.
-Loras was the first to strike in the second half, when Zues Huerta converted on a close range opportunity in the box to shrink the UD lead down to two goals with 29 minutes to play.
-Loras continued to prove why they were the 24th ranked team in the country, they would rattle off two more goals in the 74th and 77th minutes to even the match at 4-4, eventually sending the game to overtime.
-With just over a minute left in the first half of the golden goal overtime, Loras took the ball up the left side of the field and sent a cross into the box, where Mark Broderick headed it in the goal to complete their game back and shock the Spartans by a score of 5-4.
